[ISP] DOC Employee Dies from Gunshot Wound at the Indiana Women's Prison

Entry Description

Indianapolis, IN – Troopers and detectives from the Indiana State Police were called at 1:37 this afternoon to the Indiana Women’s Prison, on the west side of Indianapolis, at 2595 Girls School Road, to investigate the death of a correctional officer.

Preliminary investigation has led investigators to believe Major Kenneth Wiltsie, 55, a 10 year veteran with the Indiana Department of Correction took his own life with a single self inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.  The weapon used was his issued semi-automatic pistol.

The shooting happened outdoors in a public access area on prison ground property.  No inmates or other staff was involved and the prison grounds are secure.

Maj. Wiltsie’s immediate family has been notified.  The investigation is ongoing and no other information is available at this time.
