IDHS Executive Director Congratulates 4-H'ers on Preparedness Kits
4-H members created kits to include emergency items for the Indiana State Fair

With September being Preparedness Month, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security Executive Director Joe Wainscott is congratulating the Indiana State Fair 4-H qualifiers on the preparation of their first aid/preparedness kits.

“The 4-H program sets a great example throughout Indiana in preparing for disasters at an early stage in life. Through these disaster kits, Indiana youth are taking strides in educating themselves, their families and other Hoosiers,” said Wainscott.

An array of First Aid kits that were created by youth grades throughout the state of Indiana were on display at the Indiana State Fair. Grades 3 and 4 were general first aid kits, but fifth grade focused on emergency disasters such as tornadoes, snowstorms, electricity outages, fire and etc.

Kits included non-perishable food, water, batteries, bandages, over-the-counter medicines, weather radios, tools and other necessary items.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security encourages all families and individuals to get a kit, make a plan and be prepared. For more information on how to get prepared, visit: getprepared.in.gov.

Qualifiers were from:
Bartholomew, Boone, Clay, Clinton, Fayette, Fulton, Gibson, Harrison, Hendricks, Howard, Jackson, Jay, Jefferson, Jennings, Kosciusko, Madison, Marshall, Martin, Monroe, Newton, Noble, Posey, Pulaski, Putnam, Randolph, Ripley, Rush, Shelby, Spencer, Sullivan, Switzerland, Tippecanoe, Tipton, Vermillion, Washington and Whitley counties.
