Entry Description Jackson County: Yesterday afternoon Trooper Randel Miller arrested a Louisville, KY man following a traffic stop for a minor traffic violation. Shortly before 1:00 p.m. Tpr. Miller stopped a 1995 Chevrolet Impala for a traffic violation on southbound I-65 near the 51 mile marker. During the course of the traffic stop Tpr. Miller became suspicious of the driver and Master Trooper Stephen Wheeles and his K-9 partner Kane were nearby and stopped to assist. M/Tpr. Wheeles walked Kane around the vehicle and Kane alerted to the scent of drugs within the vehicle. A subsequent search led to the discovery of approximately one pound of high grade marijuana. The driver, 27-year-old Benjamin C. Schwartz, was placed under arrest without incident and transported to the Jackson County Jail where he is now facing charges of Possession of Marijuana (over 30 grams) and Dealing in Marijuana, both Class D Felonies. This is yet another example of how aggressive traffic enforcement efforts often lead to the discovery of much more serious criminal activity.
Persons arrested are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. |
