Entry Description
Disaster Preparedness Activity Helps Engage Hoosiers During National Preparedness Month
This September, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS),
Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS), and the City of
Indianapolis Division of Homeland Security, is playing 30 Days 30 Ways,
an emergency preparedness game created to help engage the public and
recognize that September is National Preparedness Month.
Each
day during the month of September, a new challenge designed to improve
proficiency in disaster preparedness will be posted to the 30 Days 30
Ways blog located at 30Days30Ways.IndianapolisEMS.org.
A specific number of points will be assigned to each challenge, and
participants should aim to collect as many points as they can throughout
the entirety of the game.
How to Play
Participants can get themselves ready to play by doing the following activities:
• Following @IndianapolisEMS on Twitter by going to http://twitter.com/indianapolisems.
• Liking Indianapolis EMS on Facebook by going to www.facebook.com/IndianapolisEMS.
The challenges will be posted to the 30 Days 30 Ways blog and the
Indianapolis EMS Twitter and Facebook pages by 8 a.m. each morning.
There are four ways participants are able to respond to each day’s
challenge. They are as follows:
• Comment on the blog post by visiting 30Days30Ways.IndianapolisEMS.org.
• Comment on the post or leave your own post on the Indianapolis EMS Facebook page.
• Tweet your response to the Indianapolis EMS Twitter account using the hashtag #IN3030.
• Email your response to indy30days30ways@indianapolisems.org.
Players do not have to complete the task on the day in which it is
initially assigned; however, all proofs must be completed and turned in
by 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 30, 2012, to receive credit. Proofs received
beyond Sept. 30, 2012, will not be considered toward the prizes offered;
however, task completion any time will help players improve upon their
disaster preparedness knowledge.
By participating in this
challenge, players will win the opportunity to improve their personal
preparedness, take better care of those they love and stretch their
brain to consider better contingency planning. Awards and finalist names
will be announced by Oct. 15. Finalists will have the option of
remaining anonymous. They will be contacted first before announcing them
on the website.
National Preparedness Month
Initiated by the Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in 2004, National Preparedness Month
is observed each September to raise awareness about emergency
preparedness and to provide tips on how everyone can prepare their
homes, businesses and communities for emergencies of all types.
