Entry Description
Vigo County—At 2:50 this morning, Indiana State Police Trooper Brian Thomas speed clocked a white 1999 Acura southbound on 12th Street near Beech Street in Terre Haute at 40 miles-per-hour in a 30mph zone. After seeing the trooper, the driver of the vehicle then increased his speed and disappeared. Seconds later, Trooper Thomas found the suspect vehicle after it had crashed into the general office of Jiffy Mini-Marts located at 1033 Lafayette Avenue. The driver of the vehicle was injured and laying outside of the building. Three other individuals in the car fled on foot from the scene.
The suspected driver, Victor Justin Julio Boehmer, age 21, of Terre Haute, IN. was transported to Union Hospital for treatment of a leg injuries. Boehmer was later released and incarcerated in the Vigo County on suspicion of Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle (felony) and Driving While Intoxicated (misdemeanor). Additional charges are possible at the conclusion of the investigation.
The white Acura was reported stolen on August 19, 2012 to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office. The reported owner was from Carmel, Indiana.
Assisting Trooper Thomas were the Terre Haute City Police and Fire/EMS Departments.
Citizens may sometimes wonder why troopers stop vehicles for a mere 10mph over the speed limit. This particular event is a perfect example of what troopers often face with a “mere 10mph over the limit”, intoxicated drivers and criminal activity.
Under the law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. |
