Jasper County- Indiana State Police Master Trooper William Balch responded to a single fatal commercial motor vehicle crash on I-65.
Preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 9:37 am, south bound at the 214 mile marker (just south of the State Road-114, Rensselaer exit), Julio Lazaro Ares, 40, from Miami, Florida was driving a 2007 Volvo tractor pulling a box trailer, owned by D & R Logistics Inc, out of Romeoville, Illinois.
For unknown reasons, Julio Lazaro Ares ran off the roadway, into the west ditch and his vehicle struck a tree. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Jasper County Coroner’s office.
Family has been notified.
The trailer was loaded with plastic film and canned fruit and did not lose any part of the load due to the vehicle staying upright upon impact with the tree. Julio Lazaro Ares’ pet dog was released to Jasper County Animal Control.
The right lane was closed fore approximately an hour for the removal of the semi and cleanup.
