[ISP] Hot Truck Located in Clinton County
Start Date: 7/24/2012Start Time: 12:00 AM

Entry Description

Clinton County- Today at approximately 3:24 p.m, Sergeant Rich Kelly of the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (ISP CVED) stopped a truck for a federal motor carrier inspection on State Road 28 near County Road 700 west in Clinton County.

As Sergeant Kelly walked up to speak to the driver, he could smell a putrefied odor coming from the back of the trailer. The white 2006 Conventional Freightliner pulling a Great Dane refrigerated trailer owned by Expressway Leasing LLC of Chicago, IL was driven by Billy Singh, 49 years old from Indianapolis, IN.  Singh was advised of the reason for the stop and he let Sergeant Kelly know that there had been problems with the refrigeration unit on the trailer but it had been fixed.  Sergeant Kelly asked him to open the doors on the trailer to check the temperatures of the products Singh was hauling.  Upon further investigation, it was discovered that temperatures of the different food products exceeded federal regulations.

With assistance from Trooper Ashley Kelly and Nate King of ISP CVED and John Brannon of the Clinton County Health Department an inspection was conducted of the contents of the trailer.  Various types of meats, vegetables and other food products had to be destroyed because the temperature readings were above what was required by law.  Approximately 2,000 pounds of food products were destroyed.  The truck had made deliveries in Ohio and Frankfort, IN and was heading to Lafayette area restaurants.  The driver was cited for motor carrier violations and released.

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
