Allisonville Road Bridge Beams
Being Placed Over I-465
Beginning Tonight

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will reroute overnight traffic on Interstate 465 this week as beams are installed at the Allisonville Road bridge.

Beginning tonight at 9 p.m., a single lane of eastbound and westbound I-465 will be restricted.  At 10 p.m., I-465 eastbound and westbound will be directed to exit and re-enter the interstate via the Allisonville Road ramps.  I-465 traffic will be returned to its normal pattern by 6 a.m. Tuesday.  The overnight restrictions are expected to repeat each night this week through Saturday night. 

Crews from Walsh Construction, the state’s contractor for the $19 million bridge and interchange reconstruction, will be placing steel beams for the new Allisonville Road bridge over I-465.  The bridge was closed on May 30 for reconstruction that is expected to take approximately 110 days.

Traffic will not be permitted to pass under the bridge beams as they are being set and must be diverted to the exit ramps for the safety of motorists and workers. 

Walsh will install a total of 34 beams spanning I-465.  The steel beams are 50 inches tall, and the longest measures 108 feet and weighs 28,000 pounds.  The structural steel for the new Allisonville Road bridge has an estimated total weight of 608,000 pounds.
