End Date: 7/4/2012End Time: 11:59 PM
Entry Description

St. Croix, Perry County:  Henry Lee Whistle, 36, St. Croix, has been formally charged with the murder of Jamie Renee Stowe, 31, St. Croix.  The charge of murder is the most serious charge one can face under Indiana law.

At approximately 8:14 p.m. CDT Sunday, the Tell City Dispatch Center received a 911 call from 26790 North SR 37, St Croix, in reference to dead female in the residence.  Perry County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived to find Jamie Renee Stowe, 31 dead inside the residence.  Deputies immediately secured the residence and called for assistance from the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Scene Investigators.  Members of the crime scene team executed a search warrant at the residence on Sunday night and subsequently collected and preserved evidence at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Jamie and her fiancé, Henry Lee Whistle, 36 had gotten into a physical altercation.  Through the investigation detectives established enough probable cause to preliminarily charge Whistle with Aggravated Battery, a Class B Felony and Domestic Battery, a Class A Misdemeanor pending an autopsy of the body.

An autopsy was conducted Monday afternoon in Tell City.  With evidence that was discovered during the autopsy detectives along with the Perry County Prosecutor, S. Rod Acchiardo, have now charged Whistle with murder.  Whistle is being held at the Perry County Jail with no bond.

The following information was provided by the Perry County Prosecutor’s Office. The pathologist determined that the primary cause of death was blunt force trauma to Ms. Stowe’s head, neck, chest and abdomen.

The Initial Hearing of the Defendant was held today, Tuesday July 3, 2012 at 8:30 a.m. in the Perry Circuit Court.  The Defendant was appointed defense counsel, Gerald Thom, to represent him.  The Defendant is scheduled again in Court on July 16, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. for further Pre-trial Conference.

“I am grateful for the coordinated efforts and expertise of the various law enforcement agencies during the investigation and arrest of the Defendant in this case,” said Perry County Prosecutor Acchiardo.  “I hope this will begin the process of closure for the family and friends of Jamie Stowe, although there clearly remains much work to be done.  As in all criminal cases the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proved guilty in a court of law."

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
