Entry Description
Vigo County—This afternoon at 2:13, Indiana State Police and Vigo County emergency agencies responded to a three vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of US 41 approximately 500 feet south of Springhill Drive. The crash involved two passenger vehicles and a scooter. The driver of the scooter was ultimately airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with multiple serious injuries.
Preliminary investigation revealed northbound traffic was stopped for a red light. A blue, 2011, Nissan Altima, driven by Shannon N. Grzegorek, age 35, of Newman, IL was northbound on US 41 in the left turn lane, when a blue, Taotao 50 scooter, driven by Brodie B. Evans, age 20, of Terre Haute, IN., attempted to travel westbound across the northbound lanes of US 41 between stopped vehicles. In doing so, Evans drove into the path of the Grzegorek vehicle and was struck broadside. Evans scooter then struck a silver, 2008, Dodge, Caravan driven by Stacey L. Smith, age 46, of Sullivan, IN., who was stopped in the northbound passing lane of US 41.
Evans was ejected from his scooter and landed in the northbound left turn lane. Evans was not wearing a helmet and was treated for head and internal injuries, as well as multiple lacerations and abrasions.
The crash was investigated by ISP Master Trooper Ritch Reynolds. Assisting were multiple ISP troopers, Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, Honey Creek Fire/Rescue, and Trans Care Ambulance Service.
Drugs/Alcohol testing is underway for Evans. Grzegorek and Smith tested negative for intoxication and neither driver was injured. Grzegorek’s seven month old son was in a child safety seat in the rear of the vehicle and was not injured. The investigation is still ongoing and no traffic citations have been issued.
Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. |
