Entry Description
Switzerland County: Last night at approximately 9:34 p.m. Senior Trooper Patrick Williams, 36 of Vevay attempted to stop a 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck for a minor traffic violation on S.R. 56 near the Switzerland/Jefferson County line. The driver of the pickup truck refused to pull over and gradually increased his speed as the pursuit reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour as they traveled eastbound on S.R. 56. Just east of Lamb Master Trooper Greg Grove deployed stop sticks and the pickup struck the sticks and suffered at least one flat tire but continued flee troopers. Just west of Vevay near the construction zone on S.R. 56 Switzerland County deputies deployed stop sticks causing two more tires to deflate on the pickup truck. As the pursuit reached Vevay the pickup truck rammed S/Tpr. Williams’ car twice and eventually turned south onto Market Street where the driver lost control near Walnut St. The driver then fled on foot and was pursued by Trooper Joe May who deployed his Taser Electronic Control Device which made contact with the driver causing him to fall to the ground where he was taken into custody.
Arrested was 40 year old Travis Howard Seel of Vevay. He has been preliminarily charged with Driving While Intoxicated (refusal), Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, Criminal Recklessness, and Possession of Marijuana (under 30 grams). Other charges could be filed. After the incident, S/Tpr. Williams was transported to Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison where he was treated and released for complaint of pain. In addition to Switzerland County deputies, troopers were also assisted by Vevay Police Department.
Persons arrested are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. |
