Entry Description
US 31 Traffic Shift
South of SR 38
HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) expects to shift traffic on US 31 south of State Road 38 on Friday, June 1. Weather permitting, both directions of US 31 traffic will be redirected across the median south of State Road 38 to share the west side of the highway.
The current configuration shifting traffic to the east side of the highway over State Road 38 will remain in place: Southbound US 31 traffic is rerouted via a median crossover to share the east side of the highway with northbound traffic.
Milestone Contractors, the state’s contractor for the project, is currently constructing State Road 38, the southbound US 31 overpass and interchange ramps. Access to and from State Road 38 is closed.
The $19.6 million interchange is designed as a folded diamond to preclude impacting nearby MacGregor Park. When complete, twin two-lane bridges will overpass SR 38. The northbound US 31 bridge opened to traffic in December 2011; the southbound bridge is expected to be finished this year. The Major Moves project also includes reconstruction of one mile of US 31. All work is expected to be complete by November. |
