Entry Description
Vigo County---This morning at 8:26, Vigo County Central Dispatch gave a radio broadcast to local and state officers requesting they attempt to locate a Vermillion County man wanted for questioning in a protective order violation that had just occurred at a local Terre Haute business on east Wabash Avenue. The man was suspected of trying to force his way into the business to contact a female acquaintance, when employees of the business dialed 911 for help. The suspect left the scene prior to Terre Haute Police Officers arriving and was last seen driving a gray 1990 Subaru 4-door passenger car (Indiana registration plate number provided to law enforcement), possibly on his way to the Vermillion County area. Officers were also alerted the man was wanted on warrant stemming from a prior Vigo County domestic battery investigation.
At 8:38 a.m., Indiana State Police Senior Trooper Ty Lightle was patrolling southbound on State Road 63 near Pennington Road in northern Vigo County and spotted the suspect vehicle northbound on SR 63. The suspect vehicle turned east onto Trinity Avenue and was stopped by Lightle at the intersection of Trinity Avenue and Hutchinson Street. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Charles E. Griffin III, age 39, of Clinton, IN. was arrested on a Vigo County Division 4 warrant for Domestic Battery, A misdemeanor, Invasion of Privacy, A misdemeanor and Criminal Recklessness, A misdemeanor. The warrant was for a previous domestic battery investigation and not related to the event from this morning.
The Terre Haute Police Department is working the original complaint from this morning concerning the local Terre Haute business and the female acquaintance. Questions concerning this investigation should be directed to the THPD at 812-238-1661.
This arrest is one of the many examples of a trooper being at the right place at the right time and the benefits of an integrated police radio network which allows all Indiana law enforcement agencies to communicate valuable information in real time.
Assisting were ISP Lieutenant Dan Jones, Sergeant Joe Watts, Master Troopers Todd Miles, Ritch Reynolds and Jason Owen.
Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. |
