Entry Description
Indianapolis, IN- This afternoon at 2:53 p.m., Indiana State Police responded to a semi-tractor trailer, passenger car, personal injury crash on east bound I-74 at the 94.2 mm (approximately one mile east of I-465 on the south east side.)
Preliminary investigation revealed that Scott E. Baldwin, 52, of Decatur IN was parked on the emergency shoulder of I-74 E.B. at the 94.2 mm in an International semi- tractor pulling an empty box trailer. The refrigerator door had opened in Baldwin’s cab as he exited the curve onto I-74 E.B. and he had pulled to the side of the road to remove cans form under his feet in the driver’s compartment.
The collision occurred when Jennene Scott, 42, of Indianapolis drove her 1995 Toyota Corolla into the rear of the parked semi-trailer. Scott suffered head injuries and was transported to Wishard Hospital. A nine year old female front seat passenger and a six year old rear seat passenger were transported to Riley Hospital with reportedly non-life threatening injuries.
Officer’s reported that seatbelts were in use by all occupants and the air bags did deploy. The rear seat six year old passenger was belted, but not in a child restraint seat.
Investigator’s stated the evidence at the scene indicated that Scott did not attempt to evade the crash until she was within approximately thirty five feet of the semi-trailer. Tire marks indicate that she attempted to steer to the left but was unable to avoid the crash
There were no witnesses to the crash and officers did not locate a cell phone in the wreckage.
