[ISP] Traffic Stop Leads to Felony Arrest

Entry Description

Tippecanoe County- Today at approximately 8:25 a.m. Trooper Darrick Scott Stopped a vehicle on I-65 south bound near the 178 mile marker in Tippecanoe County and discovered marijuana inside the vehicle.

Trooper Scott advised that he stopped a silver 2012 Dodge Charger driven by Darious M. Weatherspoon, 23 years old from Frankfort, KY for a traffic violation.  Upon further investigation, Trooper Scott could smell the raw odor of Marijuana coming from the vehicle.  With assistance from Senior Trooper Larry Mote Sr, marijuana was found in the vehicle.

Weatherspoon was taken into custody and charged with possession of marijuana with a prior offense, a Class D Felony and taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail.  The passenger was released with no charges.  Weatherspoon had a prior conviction for marijuana in Kentucky and is awaiting trial for a similar offense in Marion County.  The investigation is continuing.

All Suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
