Entry Description
Sellersburg-On today’s date at approximately 4:20 PM, a black 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle was travelling south bound on Interstate 65 in the far left lane when it struck a tire in the roadway near the Six Mile Marker. When the motorcycle crashed into the tire, the driver of the motorcycle, Edward M. Szewczyk, 45, from Delmar, DE, and the passenger, Lisa T. Szewczyk, 52, of Delmar, DE, were thrown from the motorcycle. Clark County Coroner Edwin Coots declared the female passenger dead at the scene due to the injuries she received from the crash.
The male driver of the motorcycle was air lifted to the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, KY with life threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed a semi-tractor and trailer was travelling south bound on Interstate 65 near Exit Seven when the rear passenger side tires came off of the trailer that was being pulled. One of the tires rolled off into the grass on the west side of the roadway, but the other tire rolled onto the roadway coming to rest in the far left lane of Interstate 65. The motorcycle struck the tire in the roadway. The driver of the semi-tractor and trailer was William A. Ross, 42, from Ransom, IL. He was driving a 2005 International semi-tractor pulling a 2004 Reitnour trailer loaded with steel coils. He was not injured.
The injured and deceased are husband and wife. Neither the driver nor passenger of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet. Next of kin has been notified. |
