Crothersville: Yesterday evening a 13 year old pedestrian was struck and seriously injured in Crothersville.  According to Trooper Matt Holley, yesterday evening at approximately 8:15 p.m. 13 year old Joseph T. Smedley of Crothersville was jogging northbound on South Kovener St. in Crothersville when he crossed West Main St. into the path of a 1999 Saturn driven by 17 year old Jackie N. Bowman of Crothersville.  The Saturn struck Smedley throwing him approximately 50 feet.  Smedley suffered head injuries, a broken right leg, and injuries to his right arm.  He was transported to Schneck Memorial Hospital in Seymour and was later transferred to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis.  Bowman was not injured in the crash.  According to Tpr. Holley, West Main St. at South Kovener is a through street for traffic on West Main St. 

The crash remains under investigation.  Tpr. Holley was assisted at the scene by Crothersville PD, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Jackson County EMS, and the Vernon Township Fire Department.
