Entry Description
Waynetown- Today, a warrant was served on a suspect in Montgomery County for neglect of a dependent.
Trooper Detective Jerry Holeman with the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division out of the Lafayette Post served a warrant on Tammy S. Elkins, 54 years old from Waynetown, IN. She was taken into custody at Montgomery County Jail and charged with two counts Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. Bond is set at $10,000.00 surety or $5,000.00 cash.
This investigation stemmed from information received regarding the condition of Michael Elkins, 25 years old who was under the dependent care of Tammy Elkins. Michael had been injured in a motor bike accident as a child and was paralyzed from the neck down. Adult Family Services of Tippecanoe County along with the Joe Buser, prosecutor of Montgomery County, requested an investigation into the care of Michael Elkins after he had been brought December of 2011 to St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette, IN in serious condition.
He later was transferred to IU Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN where he died on January 4th, 2012.
Detective Holeman’s investigation resulted in charges being brought against Tammy Elkins. The investigation is continuing. |
