Entry Description
Vigo County—This afternoon, Indiana State Police troopers from the Putnamville Post were asked by the Sullivan and Vigo County Sheriff’s Offices to assist in locating a Terre Haute man wanted on warrant for felony rape and confinement.
After receiving the warrant and furthering their investigation, troopers and Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies located the man in Farmersburg at the south 5th Street home of his girlfriend. He was taken into custody at 5p.m. without incident and transported to the Sullivan County Jail.
ARRESTED: Matthew J. Maxwell, age 22, of Terre Haute, IN. The charges on the Vigo County Superior Court 1 warrant were for one count of Rape, A felony and one count of Criminal Confinement, B felony. Maxwell’s bond was set a $75,000 with no 10%.
The criminal investigation which levied the charges against Maxwell was apparently conducted by the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office. The Indiana State Police were merely asked to help locate and arrest him. Therefore, questions concerning the rape/confinement investigation should be directed to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office.
Making the arrest were ISP Troopers Tyler Van Ness and Mike Taylor, along with Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies Jason Bobbitt and Dave Holmes.
Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. |
