Entry Description

Vigo County—In the last 22 days, the Putnamville Post of the Indiana State Police has received multiple tips from area residents concerning various suspected crimes. Those tips, some anonymous, have led to the arrest of three individuals. The first set of tips led troopers to the Vigo County location and apprehension of one of the Wabash Valley Crime Stoppers Most Wanted, the second led troopers to the arrest of a man suspected of methamphetamine operations in Putnam County, and the third has led troopers to the arrest of a suspect involved in a hit and run crash at a school bus stop on US 40 in eastern Vigo County.

On Tuesday, May 15, Indiana State Police Troopers Bill Bradbury and Michael Featherling concluded their nearly two week investigation of the May 2nd multiple vehicle crash on US 40 in eastern Vigo County where one driver fled the scene. Working with the ISP Public Information Office and local media outlets, a brief description of the driver and vehicle were provided to area residents. Several tips were offered to the Putnamville Post which led troopers to the suspect vehicle and driver. After the crash investigation and location of other suspected evidence, troopers obtain a Vigo County arrest warrant and subsequently arrest the suspected driver. The van was found to be a silver 2000 Chrysler Town and Country and registered to a friend of Wagle’s.

ARRESTED: Stacie Paul Wagle, age 42, of Brazil, IN.  Troopers Bradbury and Featherling served the warrant on Wagle at the Vigo County Jail where he was being held on a probation violation. His bond was set at $2,500 bond with no ten percent for the crash related charges.

CHARGES: Criminal Recklessness, Class A Misdemeanor; Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident, A misdemeanor; and Reckless Driving, B Misdemeanor.

Wagle is suspected of being the driver of the van that collided with three other vehicles at a school bus stop on US 40, then drove around the bus which had its stop arm engaged as it was loading students, and fled the scene. Only one driver received relatively minor injuries from the crash.

Assisting during the investigation were ISP Crime Scene Investigator and Crash Reconstructionist Sergeant Jim Cody, ISP Sergeant Jared Nicoson, Master Trooper Hans Nowak, Public Information Officer Sergeant Joe Watts, and the Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office.

The partnership between media outlets and law enforcement is vital for the safety of the public. The Indiana State Police is very appreciative and supportive of this relationship.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
