Entry Description
Jasper County-Indiana State Police Senior Trooper Dan Avitia responded to a single vehicle crash where the driver lost control by speeding too fast for conditions, lost control on the slick road, and rolled her vehicle after hitting the guard rail.
At approximately 1:13 p.m., today, Samantha Kraal, 20 of Munster, was south bound on I-65 at the 224 mile marker (this is four miles north of the Fair Oaks/Winamac exit) in her 2001 Mazda, when she stated she doesn’t remember anything except her vehicle rolling over. Kraal was driving in a well marked and posted construction zone; where the speed was posted at 45 mile-per hour.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Kraal was entering into a curve, lost control on the wet road, left the roadway, hit the guard rail, flipped and rolled her Mazda; landing on the roof in a pile of construction dirt.
Trooper Avitia stated, “Luckily, Kraal and her infant child were both properly restrained in a seat belt and child safety seat. It was a truly a miracle no one was seriously injured in this crash. This was a true example of what wearing your seat belt and placing your child properly in a child safety seat can do, SAVE YOUR LIFE.”
Kraal and her infant were taken to Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer to be checked out as a precaution. Kraal was also cited for Speed Too Fast for Conditions. |
