Offenders Donate to Victims of Sexual Assault
Start Date: 4/23/2012
End Date: 4/23/2012
Entry Description

On Saturday, April 14, 2012, the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) presented a check to the Indiana Coalition Against Sexual Assault (INCASA), during INCASA’s 26th Anniversary Gala at Oak Hill Mansion in Carmel, IN. A total of $12,667.58 was raised through offender fundraisers from IDOC facilities across the state.

On hand to present the check was IDOC Director of Registration and Victim Services Brent Myers.  “The Indiana Department of Correction is grateful for the opportunity to support INCASA in their efforts to bring awareness and provide services to victims of sexual violence in Indiana. In our line of work we know all too well the damage inflicted on crime victims and the valuable services that organizations such as INCASA provide to help the healing process.” stated Myers.

According to INCASA, the donation will be used for the HIV Prophylaxis Fund for Victims of Sexual Violence.  This fund allows hospitals to purchase the medication needed for victims of sex crimes determined to be at-risk for exposure to HIV/AIDS.

“The continued partnership with the Indiana Department of Correction and the contribution to support victims of sex crimes and programs through INCASA certainly demonstrates the commitment of the DOC to victim and community safety. We look forward to working together on education programs and other initiatives,” stated Anita Carpenter, CEO of INCASA.

In addition to this donation, the IDOC is planning a memorial tree planting ceremony at each of its 26 adult and juvenile correctional facilities to honor victims of crime in Indiana during National Crime Victims’ Rights week, April 22-28, 2012.

About INCASA (

The Indiana Coalition Against Sexual Assault (INCASA) believes that sexual assault is a violent crime of power and domination that can be perpetrated against all persons, and that the healing of victims cannot be separated from the healing of society. INCASA exists to provide education, advocacy, and support to professionals, communities, and survivors regarding sexual violence in Indiana.
