[ISP] “Bad Turn” Leads to Felony Drug Charges
Start Date: 4/5/2012
End Date: 4/5/2012
Entry Description

New Castle – This morning shortly after 10:30 a.m. Senior Trooper Kris Martin, assigned to the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, was patrolling on south bound State Road 3 in New Castle, a high crash roadway.  He stopped and was waiting to turn left onto east bound Indiana Avenue when he observed a white Saturn coming north bound on SR3.

The north bound Saturn turned right onto east bound Indiana Avenue, making an improper turn, going left of center nearly striking two vehicles sitting at the light.  Trooper Martin stopped the car and found its driver to be James Daniel Wade, age 23, of Rushville.

After speaking with the driver about the improper turn, which is a crash causing violation, Martin became suspicious. Consent to search was given which turned up a narcotic pill and marijuana.

Wade was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Class ”D” Felony, and Possession of Marijuana with a Previous Conviction, Class “D” Felony, in addition to the ticket for improper turn.  He was lodged in the Henry County Jail with a cash bond of $2500. Trooper Martin was assisted at the scene by Sergeant Todd Wallace and Trooper Tyler Painter.

The Indiana State Police remain committed to reducing crashes and patrolling in high crash areas.  We continue to monitor the top causes for crashes, and concentrating enforcement efforts on these causes.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
