[ISP] Monticello Man Arrested After Earlier Standoff
Start Date: 3/26/2012
End Date: 3/26/2012
Entry Description

White County—Indiana State Police Lafayette District and the White County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Monticello man on various felony charges stemming from a standoff that occurred on March 13th at 4548 East Fairway Court in Monticello.

Christian Lee Condo, age 32, of Monticello was arrested around 12:45PM today by Indiana State Police officers Detective Gregg Edwards and Trooper Michael Krueger, along with White County Sheriff Pat Shafer. Condo was arrested immediately after being released from a mental health facility in Lafayette where he had been ordered to undergo treatment by the White County Superior Court since the March 13th standoff.

Condo has been charged with two counts of Attempted Murder, A felony; two counts of Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, Class C felony; one count of Criminal Recklessness, D felony; and Neglect of a Dependant, D felony. His bond has been set at $100,000 cash or corporate security bond.

The investigation originated on March 13th at approximately 2:46 AM, when two White County Sheriff Deputies responded to a welfare check at a residence in a subdivision located off West Shafer Drive at 4548 East Fairway Court, Monticello. Shortly after arriving, around 3:06 AM, the male occupant of the residence, identified as Christian Lee Condo, allegedly fired multiple shots at the deputies out of a front window of the residence. Neither deputy was injured. The Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team responded as well as ISP and White County Sheriff’s Office Hostage Negotiators. After nearly 90 minutes of negotiations, officers were able to secure the safe release of the suspect’s children from the residence. They were not injured and their ages range from fifteen, six, four and one years-old. Condo then surrendered peacefully just after 9:30 AM. Mrs. Condo was not at home during the standoff and marital issues are believed to be the catalyst for this event.

The case was investigated by ISP Detective Gregg Edwards with the White County Sheriff’s Office and White County Prosecutor’s Office assisting.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
