Entry Description
INDOT Awards Contract for
US 27 Bridge in Portland
GREENFIELD, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is awarding a contract to repair and resurface a bridge on US 27 in Portland, Ind. The bridge is located over the Salamonie River just south of State Road 26.
INDOT awarded the contract to HIS Constructors, Inc. of Indianapolis based on its low bid of $73,885. HIS bid was the lowest of two submitted. HIS will repair concrete on the bridge and place a polymer-modified concrete overlay on the bridge surface.
The overlay is a strong epoxy compound used to seal and protect the bridge. Advantages of polymeric concrete include rapid curing time, long-term durability to freeze and thaw cycles, and resistance to moisture and chemicals.
The project will require daytime restrictions at the bridge as the repairs are completed on one half of the bridge at a time. Flagging operations will be used to maintain one lane of traffic across the bridge. Traffic will return to a normal pattern each day before nightfall. A schedule will be provided in the near future, but the project is expected to be complete in July. |
