[ISP] Suspect in Monticello Robberies Arrested
Start Date: 2/28/2012
End Date: 2/28/2012
Entry Description

Indianapolis – Today, an Indiana State Police investigation of two Monticello robberies resulted in the arrest of Gerald L. Doll, 43, of rural Monticello, IN.

Indiana State Police officers, working from the Indianapolis State Police Post, served Doll with a White Superior Court arrest warrant. The warrant charged Doll with a class B felony count of robbery, resulting in bodily injury, and a class C felony count of robbery. Doll also faces two class D felony counts for resisting law enforcement and residential entry. Doll was taken into custody after being discharged from Methodist Hospital, where he was being treated for a gunshot wound.  He is currently being held without bond in the Marion County Adult Processing Center, awaiting transportation to White County.

On February 21, 2012, at approximately 10:09 a.m., Doll allegedly robbed the Twin Lakes Coin-op Laundry at 701 N. Illinois Street, Monticello, IN. During the robbery, Doll is alleged to have caused a female employee to injure her back when he shoved her to the floor. He purportedly left the laundry with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.  Approximately 15 minutes later, Doll purportedly committed a second robbery at the Bank of Wolcott on Sixth Street in Monticello, IN.  He allegedly escaped the bank with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.

Shortly after the bank robbery, an officer from the Monticello Police Department observed Doll driving a Ford sport utility vehicle, which was allegedly involved in the robberies.  The officer initiated a traffic stop, but Doll refused to stop. He led officers on an approximately three minute pursuit through Monticello. Doll eventually exited the Ford and fled on foot.

A Monticello police officer chased Doll. During the chase, the officer deployed his Taser, which did not stop Doll. Doll then purportedly broke into the backdoor of an occupied residence at 614 Bluff Street, Monticello, IN. The Monticello officer, who was giving chase, gave Doll verbal directions to surrender. Doll did not stop. The officer fired one shot from his department issued Springfield 40 caliber handgun, neutralizing Doll.

Doll had no connection to the home he had broken into.
