IDOC Dedicates New Addition to New Castle Correctional Facility

New Castle, IN (February 21, 2012) – The Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) and The GEO Group, Inc. will host a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly built New Castle Correctional Facility (NCCF) Annex on Wednesday, February 29, 2012.

Construction broke ground on the 512-bed high security annex on April 13, 2011 and is scheduled to be completed by February 19, 2012, bringing the facility’s total capacity to 3,196 beds.

The project, which was estimated to cost approximately $23 million, was funded by GEO who operates NCCF under contract with the IDOC. GEO expects that the expansion will bring an estimated 66 new jobs to the New Castle Correctional Facility.

Tours of the NCCF Annex and the Reflections of Pride: The History of the Indiana Department of Correction Museum will be available at the conclusion of the ceremony. 

The IDOC Museum opened in November 2011 to share the history of the Indiana Department of Correction with others throughout the state. Visitors of the museum can view an array of artifacts on display including the original hand-written sentencing decree and intake documents for inmate #1, displays of Indiana’s most notorious inmates including John Dillinger and Charles Manson, and the IDOC’s electric chair, in use from 1913 to 1995.
