Plow Truck Drivers Prepared
for Expected Snow
GREENFIELD, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Greenfield District will cover all snow routes in advance of winter weather expected late Monday and early Tuesday. Crews are scheduled to continue operations through Tuesday until conditions improve to allow reductions in forces or a cease to operations.
INDOT drivers report to 21 units throughout the district and are responsible for 179 routes, including more than 5,300 lane miles and nearly 1,100 bridges on all state roads, US routes and interstate highways in the district.
Pretreating routes with brine helps protect bridges and overpasses from becoming slick as air temperatures drop and establishes an initial road surface barrier, which prevents ice from bonding to the pavement. INDOT plow truck drivers will maintain this brine barrier by adding anti-icing agents such as salt (sodium chloride) to the highway surface and plowing snow as it accumulates. Forecasts currently call for about two inches of snow accumulation through Tuesday afternoon, when pavement temperatures are expected to return above freezing.
INDOT encourages all drivers to use caution and plan for Tuesday morning commutes. Allow extra travel time to safely reach destinations and drive appropriately for road conditions.
Visit www.TrafficWise.in.gov before departing to see if road conditions are good, fair or difficult. The information is also available by calling 800-261-ROAD (7623). Links to safe driving tips, roadway conditions, as well as the latest news and information about INDOT can be found at www.indot.in.gov. |
