[ISP] Investigation of Fatal House Fire Results in Murder Charges
Start Date: 1/4/2012
End Date: 1/4/2012
Entry Description

Pike County – An Indiana State Police and Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office investigation into the death of Kathy Satterfield, 58, of Petersburg, has prompted murder charges with a request for a sentence of life imprisonment with no possibility of parole to be filed against Andrew Satterfield, 36, of Petersburg.  “Satterfield has also been charged with Arson, a Class B Felony,” said Pike County Prosecutor Darrin McDonald.  Satterfield is currently being held without bond in the Pike County Jail.

On the morning of December 8, emergency personnel responded to a house fire at Satterfield’s residence located at 2515 West C.R. 350 North near Petersburg.  Andrew’s mother, Kathy Satterfield, was found dead inside. Indiana State Police Detectives were later notified that Andrew Satterfield drove himself to Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes to be treated for serious burns.  He was later transported to Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis where he was treated for his injuries.

During the investigation, Indiana State Fire Marshal Investigator Matt Wells conducted the fire scene examination and determined the fire was intentionally set.  An autopsy revealed Kathy Satterfield died from multiple gunshot wounds. Further investigation by Indiana State Police detectives and Indiana State Fire Marshal investigators determined that Andrew Satterfield allegedly shot and killed his mother before intentionally setting the house on fire.  Satterfield received his injuries after igniting the fire.  Satterfield’s initial hearing is scheduled for Thursday, January 5 at 3:00 p.m.
